Today I didn’t even get to shuffle the cards; as soon as I picked them up and went to split them, out came the snake. She speaks to this hypersensitive Cancer full moon coming up on Friday on the cardinal axis of the zodiac wheel, opposite sun in Capricorn and squaring Jupiter in Aries and asteroid Ceres in Libra. The snake is a threat and a healer at the same time, reflecting how we might feel as we decide to work on deeply sensitive emotional wounds. We fear fully feeling and acknowledging the hurt and what that says about ourselves, and how it affects the safety and integrity of our foundations at the root of being.
But the snake is also the symbol of kundalini energy that sits coiled at the base of our spine until we call it up consciously or unconsciously, to move through each energy centre in the body, fertilizing us with Uranian electricity. This is often a painful and confusing process that results in the breakdown of our previously constructed sense of self, triggering all sorts of hurt and forsaken emotions from this life and past ones. But the poison is the medicine, and allowing ourselves to process difficult and downright destabilizing emotions, leads to transformation without deadening sensitivity.
In the sky, this upcoming full moon takes place along the Gemini/Sagittarius axis, aligned with the so-called 13th constellation Ophiuchus, which occupies the sky alongside Sagittarius. Ophiuchus means “serpent bearer”: in Roman myth, Ophiuchus represented Aesclepius the healer, who learned the secrets of resurrection by observing snakes healing each other with herbs. The demonization of the serpent that occurred during the last 2000 years is breaking down as we begin to see past the black-and-white portraits painted for us by church and state, and embrace duality through mutual respect and clear seeing, symbolized by the twins of Gemini.
The number 55 speaks to heightened awareness, deep insight and support from Higher Friends and energies as we go deep into ourselves, refusing to hide our eyes from the unpleasant realities we find there. The snake understands mysteries and the secrets of healing: there is nothing to hold us back except reluctance to undergo temporary fear and pain.
