Leatherworking: This is my latest piece, a large v

Leatherworking: This is my latest piece, a large version of the Goro’s bag. Made with a very thin, easy to sew leather I got in Mexico (it’s either goat or sheep). The finish shows every wrinkle so maybe not the best choice for this design. But it’s super light and a nice summer boho bag. Next I’m going to try this same pattern with a mid-weight deerskin.

Leatherworking: A pink version of the tiny Goro’s pouch. Got this “leather” from Amazon for the pink badge that’s on the front of my giant bag from last summer. Not sure what it’s actually made of but it’s definitely not leather. Seems pretty durable, it went through the washer and dryer by mistake and held up well.

Leatherworking: Third and most successful Goro’s pouch design, with secondhand suede that is the perfect weight to define the shape. The leather rings at the side prevent the strap from slipping through the holes. It’s not flashy but it works so well and I love the understated simplicity.

Leatherworking: My second attempt at Goro’s pouch design. This is a metallic leather (made by coating leather split with a plastic coating and stamping a leather pattern on it) so it’s a bit rigid. I use this one a lot because it’s pretty sturdy.

Leatherworking: Earlier this year I learned about Goro (Japanese leather & metal artisan) and his iconic pouches. I became obsessed with trying to replicate one. The design is deceptively simple and requires perfect technique and ideal materials. My first attempt with this super soft deerskin hides a multitude of flaws but I love it.
